Biography

 

Nicholas Conrad began his musical studies at age 5 with the piano, before starting violin at 7. He attained both LTCL and ARSM diplomas in piano performance under the tuition of Karen Briscoe, as well as an ABRSM Grade 8 certificate in violin performance, studying with Maria Conrad. He is
currently continuing his studies in both violin and piano, while also pursuing a B.Eng. (Hons.) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at the University of Malta. Nicholas is currently a tutor at Sally Strings and has been a member of the Malta Youth Orchestra since 2014, acting as concertmaster for many concerts over the years, featuring in performances and workshops with international orchestras that have included the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, Stoneleigh Youth Orchestra and Jugendorchester Stattegg. He has played under several
internationally-acclaimed conductors, including Daniele Gatti, Anthony Gabriele, Sergey Smbatyan, Ali Groen, Philip Walsh and Virginia Martinez. Additionally, he has participated in several masterclasses with world-class musicians including Irina Simon-Renes, Alexandre Razera, Nemanja
Ljubinkovic, Natalia Lomeiko, Christine Zerafa and Gabi Sultana. Nicholas has performed in severalsolo and chamber concerts on both instruments, including the Victoria International Arts Festival. He was also a finalist in the Bice Mizzi Vassallo competition in 2023 and was awarded the Laureate prize in the Malta International Piano Festival Competition in his category in 2023.
