
TANO MONSEIGNEUR

Tano Monseigneur started practicing the euphonium and learning theory and solfeggio back in 1995 at the St Gaetan Band Club of Ħamrun.
He continued studies in euphonium under Mro Paul Borg and in harmony and at a later stage in composition under Mro Ray Sciberras’s supervision, obtaining the A(Mus)LCM and the L(Mus)LCM diplomas from the London College of Music in 2003 and 2009 respectively. At present he is waiting for the outcome of his FLCM in composition.
Currently he forms part of the Cappella Diacono and the Mirabitur choirs as a bass singer, but he dedicates most of the time composing. His portfolio includes several festive and funeral marches, concert pieces for windband and orchestra, piano and chamber music and music for choirs. Another work includes a song cycle with nine poems of Maltese poet Oliver Friggieri, composed for soprano, tenor and baritone voices, string quartet and piano. In 2022, his work for windband, Under Siege, was one of the award-winning compositions in a competition organised by the Cottonera Foundation in collaboration with the National BandClubs Organisation, judged by international composers. This work was recorded by the band of the Malta Armed Forces in January 2023. His composition " Game of Fourths" won the 3rd prize at the Malta Piano Academy International Composition Competition in March 2023.
