
Jovana Vakic was born in Ruma, Serbia in 1990. She made her first music steps at the local music school on the piano and had continued her education at the music high school in Sremska Mitrovica while majoring in both piano performance and music theory. During that time she had her first encounter with organ, at the music festival Dies Organorum in Belgrade, where she met her future mentor Marko Petričić. She was accepted with a full scholarship to University of Indianapolis where she had completed her bachelor degree in organ performance with a concentration in church music. During her time in USA she had played for both inaugurations of the University president and Indiana Landmarks, served as an accompanist at the University, took a part in many competitions and won grants and awards, including RCYO nationals, two 2nd awards in 2012 and 2014. Jovana was also a part of the University baroque ensemble (harpsichord and organ) and the jazz big band(piano).
She was accepted to Musik Hochschule in Basel, Switzerland, for her master’s degree in organ performance, where she continued to study with Martin Sander. Her later music development continued during a mentorship program with an organist and a composer Wolfgang Sieber. Jovana performed solo recitals in Luzern, Basel, Geneva, Prague, Karlovy Vary, Belgrade and Indianapolis. Throughout her studies and later on she kept working as a piano teacher and an organist in the local cathedrals and churches.
